Troubleshooting Section 1: System Requirements ----------------------------------------------------- PC: * IBM-Compatible system with Pentium 133MHz CPU or higher processor * 64MB of RAM * Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 * Graphics capability with 65k colors or more (16 million colors recommended) * Graphics capability with 800 x 600 resolution or higher * DVD-ROM * 200 MB of hard drive space Mac: * Macintosh compatible system * 64MB of RAM * Mac OS 8 or higher * Graphics capability with 65k colors or more (16 million colors recommended) * Graphics capability with 800 x 600 resolution or higher * DVD-ROM * 200 MB of hard drive space Section 2: Installing The DVD Movie Guide On A Mac ----------------------------------------------------- To install the DVD Movie Guide on your computer, insert the enclosed DVD into the DVD-ROM drive on your computer. Double-click on the disc that pops up on your desktop, double-click on the folder called "mac" and then double-click on "Install DVD Movie Guide" and follow the instructions on the screen. Section 3: Installing The DVD Movie Guide On A PC ----------------------------------------------------- To install the DVD Movie Guide on your computer, insert the enclosed DVD into the DVD-ROM drive on your computer. If the installation does not automatically begin, select the Start button from the Task Bar and select Run. In the Command Line box, type d:\pc\setup and press Enter. (We'll assume that your computer designates "d:" as the DVD-ROM drive. If your computer uses another letter--like "e:" for example--type e:\pc\setup and press Enter.) Follow the instructions in the Installation program. Section 4: Running The DVD Movie Guide ----------------------------------------------------- Starting The DVD Movie Guide On A PC: The installation program will create an icon inside a folder called "Widescreen Review" named "Widescreen DVD Movie Guide" for running the DVD Movie Guide software. Just click the "Widescreen DVD Movie Guide" icon to start the program. Starting The DVD Movie Guide On A Mac: The installation program will create a folder called "Widescreen DVD Movie Guide" with an icon for running the DVD Movie Guide software. Just double click the icon titled "Widescreen DVD Movie Guide" to start the program. For more information on using the DVD Movie Guide DVD, just click the "How To Use This Guide" button after starting the program. This also contains a full glossary of unfamiliar terms used in The DVD Movie Guide. Exiting The DVD Movie Guide: To exit the DVD Movie Guide, just click the Exit button (you can also click the X in the top right corner of the window on a PC or the Square in the top left corner on a Mac). Section 5: Uninstalling The DVD Movie Guide Software ----------------------------------------------------- To uninstall the DVD Movie Guide Software on your PC, simply access the Control Panel and run Add/Remove Programs by double clicking the icon. You will see an entry called "Widescreen DVD Movie Guide." Select this entry (by single clicking the text) and then click on the Remove button. This action will delete all the files installed by the DVD Movie Guide. To uninstall the DVD Movie Guide Software on your Mac, simply drag the folder titled "Widescreen DVD Movie Guide" from the hard drive where you installed it to the trash. Section 6: License Agreement & Disclaimer ----------------------------------------------------- Widescreen Review's Ultimate DVD Movie Guide End-User License Agreement PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE RUNNING THE ENCLOSED SOFTWARE. THIS AGREEMENT LICENSES THE ENCLOSED SOFTWARE TO YOU AND CONTAINS WARRANTY AND LIABILITY DISCLAIMERS. BY RUNNING THE ENCLOSED SOFTWARE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BECOME BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THESE TERMS, PROMPTLY RETURN THIS PACKAGE TO THE PLACE WHERE YOU OBTAINED IT. 1. Definitions (a) "WSR Software" means the software program included in the enclosed package and all related updates supplied by WSR. (b) "WSR Product" means the WSR Software and the related documentation and models and multimedia content (such as video, animation, sound and graphics) and all related updates supplied by WSR. 2. License. This Agreement allows you to: (a) Use the WSR Software on a single computer. (b) Make one copy of the WSR Software in machine-readable form solely for backup purposes. You must reproduce on any such copy all copyright notices and any other proprietary legends on the original copy of the WSR Software. (c) Certain WSR Software is licensed with additional rights as set forth in the Supplementary Rights Addendum that may be included in the package for this WSR Product. 3. Supplementary Licenses. Certain rights are not granted under this Agreement, but may be available under a separate agreement. If you would like to enter into one of the Supplementary Licenses listed below, please contact WSR. (a) Site Licenses. You must enter into a WSR Site License if you wish to make copies of the WSR Software for use with additional CPUs owned by you. (b) Distribution License. You must enter into a WSR Run-Time Distribution Agreement if you wish to copy and distribute an End-User Product (and its associated WSR Run-Time) other than as set forth in Section 2. 4. Restrictions. You may not make or distribute copies of the WSR Product, or electronically transfer the WSR Software from one computer to another or over a network. You may not decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble or otherwise reduce the WSR software to a human-perceivable form. You may not modify, rent, re-sell for profit, distribute or create derivative works based upon the WSR Software or any part thereof. You will not export or re-export, directly or indirectly, the WSR Product into any country prohibited by the United States Export Administration Act and the regulations thereunder. 5. Ownership. The foregoing license grants give you limited rights to use the WSR Software. Although you own the disk or DVD-ROM on which the WSR Software is recorded, you do not become the owner of, and WSR retains title to, the WSR Product and all copies thereof. All rights not specifically granted in this Agreement are reserved by WSR. 6. Limited Warranties. (a) WSR warrants that, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of delivery (as evidenced by a copy of your receipt): (i) the WSR Software will perform in substantial conformance with the documentation supplied as part of the WSR Product and (ii) that the media on which the WSR Software is furnished will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. EXCEPT AS SET FORTH IN THE FOREGOING LIMITED WARRANTY, WSR DISCLAIMS ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IF APPLICABLE LAW IMPLIES ANY WARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO THE WSR PRODUCT, ALL SUCH WARRANTIES ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO NINETY (90) DAYS FROM THE DATE OF DELIVERY. No oral or written information or advice given by WSR, its dealers, distributors, agents or employees shall create a warranty or in any way increase the scope of this warranty. (b) SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. THIS WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS AND YOU MAY ALSO HAVE OTHER LEGAL RIGHTS WHICH VARY FROM STATE TO STATE. 7. Exclusive Remedies. (a) Your exclusive remedy under Section 6 is to return the WSR Software to the place you acquired it, with a copy of your receipt and a description of the problem. WSR will use reasonable commercial efforts to supply you with a replacement copy of the WSR Software that reasonably conforms to the documentation or to provide a replacement for the defective media, as appropriate. WSR shall have no responsibility with respect to WSR Software that has been altered in any way or where the non-conformance arises out of use of the WSR Software in conjunction with software or hardware not supplied by WSR or with respect to any media damaged by accident, abuse or misapplication. (b) As your exclusive remedy in the event of a breach of the limited warranty, WSR may refund to you your purchase price for the WSR Product. 8. Limitations of Damages. (a) WSR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS, LOSS OF PROFITS OR THE LIKE), WHETHER BASED ON BREACH OF CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), PRODUCT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF WSR OR ITS REPRESENTATIVES HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES AND EVEN IF A REMEDY SET FORTH HEREIN IS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE. (b) WSR's total liability to you for actual damages for any cause whatsoever will be limited to the greater of $1.00 or the amount paid by you for the WSR Software that caused such damages. (c) SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OF CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. 9. Basis of Bargain. The limited warranty, exclusive remedies and limited liability set forth above are fundamental elements of the basis of the bargain between WSR and you. WSR would not be able to provide the WSR Software on an economic basis without such limitations. 10. Government End Users. The Government acknowledges receipt of notice that the Products and related documentation were developed at private expense and that no part of either of them is in the public domain. The Government acknowledges WSR's representation that the Products are "Commercial Computer Software" as defined in Subpart 227.471 of the Department of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (the "DFARS"). The Government agrees that the Products are classified as "Commercial Computer Software" and the Government is acquiring only "Restricted Rights" in the Software and its documentation as that term is defined in Clause 252.227-7013(a)(17) of the DFARS. This Agreement contains the complete agreement between the parties with respect to the subject matter hereof, and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous agreements or understandings, whether oral or written. Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It 3. If you get lost... 4. Resetting the Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It section 5. Getting more help online 1. If you get an error when installing that says you need to change the resolution on your screen to 800 x 600: On the PC, to change your resolution you need to go to Start, Control Panels, Display, Settings tab, and then drag the slider under "Screen Area" to 800 x 600 or greater. On the Macintosh, go to Apple, Control Panels, Monitors & Sound, and select 800 x 600 or greater under "Resolution. 2. Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It There are three movies that are pre-selected in the Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It. To turn these off, uncheck the box that is checked in the Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It section. These can be turned on and off as many times as you wish. 3. If you get lost... If you ever get lost in the database and don’t know where you are, just click the Front Page button. This will always take you to the first screen that where you started and resets the search where you got lost. This does NOT reset the Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It Section. 4. Resetting the Own It, Rented It, Buy/Rent It section There are two ways. One way is to click Movies To Buy and uncheck them all manually. But in order to quickly reset all the movies to where you started, you must uninstall and reinstall the DVD Movie Guide. 5.
